I'll have to wait 'til winter, to see it, during my school break (as that's when it should be coming out), and hopefully it'll be playing at the art theater then. A Very Long Engagement, is what it's going to be called here. It looks good.Īnd I'm really looking forward to Audrey Tautou's newest film, Un long dimanche de fiançailles. The other day, at the store, I saw the movie Bon voyage (with Isabelle Adjani) for sale, but didn't get it. I liked that one, and appreciated it, but more on an intellectual level. I think it's what they call "French new wave," but it was. Also have seen 8 femmes, the musical with Catherine Deneuve. The tagline goes, "Is she crazy in love, or just crazy?" It's got a lot of surprises, and is a good, solid film. To combat her loneliness as an adult, she performs good but secret deeds for the people in her life. From having a solitary childhood of homeschooling, Amélie imagines life in a magical kind of way. But, in America, it's called He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not. A 24-year-old woman from Montmartre who works as a waitress at Café des 2 Moulins. I have Amelie on DVD, and have another one of her films. Which I am about a lot of things.Īudrey Tautou is my favorite actress. Some people I spoke to before seeing Amelie criticized it for being too childish and unrealistic, but I believe it is an essential part of the movie since. I also have the soundtrack by Yann Tierson. The other is green and has Amelie's face, and is a French print. I actually have two posters of Amelie in my room at home. AméliePoulain (Audrey Tautou), a young, inhibited dreamer who keeps to herself, lives alone with her cat in Paris. And I feel I can relate to Amelie's bouts of self-inflicted loneliness, her fears. The cinematography is beautiful, the script is full of imagination, creativity. One of my very favorites (my number four favorite film, to be exact, on my list of favorite movies). He and Guillaume Laurant, with whom he wrote the script, tell the story of Amélie (Audrey Tautou) from her conception through her adult life, which is filled with the kind of offhand cruelty. ![]()
